Chickens do not need heat. Speaking expericence in northern Michigan.

You need to insulate the walls of the gallery should be twice closed with a box of foam, preferably at the beginning of "roof" with a kind of wall and fiberglass batt in the air corners, which can be closed for the winter. Apart from one or two windows, of course.

Scrape the floor with a pile of gravel type chickens and collect the amount of calcium stones and small boulders needed.

The chickens are developed enough feathers falling to very good in winter.

Electricity is usually more expensive, but it depends a bit on mai purchase of propane gas is large enough quantities.

Propane is cheaper, please check with your dealer in our region, we can sign a contract for propane. We bought propane at a cheaper price, but must buy at least 500 gallons to get a better price. Or you can see the prices in the summer and fill their tanks at a maximum price is not like electricity where you pay the fee at this time.
